Composer SS Kumaran launches online voice bank

Popular composer SS Kumaran recently launched an online voice bank with a motive to inspire aspiring singers

Known for composing music for films like Poo and Kalavani, Kumaran is not in favour of encouraging actors-turned-singers, who can’t understand or speak the language.

“The latest trend in industry is that an increasing number of actresses are turning singers. Firstly, most of them don’t even dub in their own voice for their films. In that case, how can they even sing for films? I feel singers should know and understand the language they’re singing in,” Kumaran told a popular news portal.

Tamil film actors such as Shruti Haasan, Andrea Jeremiah and Lakshmi Menon recently turned singers.

“We have a lot of untapped potential. The reason I’ve set up this online voice bank is to bring fresh talent to limelight. Aspiring singers can post their songs in the voice bank and if I’m impressed, I’ll make them sing in my films,” he added.

He also wants other music composers to make use of his voice bank.

“I would be happy if other composers also make use of talent from my voice bank. It will be encouraging for aspiring singers to look at singing as a profession and not just a hobby. I also plan to extend this invitation to lyricists,” he said.

Kumaran is currently busy composing tunes for Tamil film Inippu Kaaram.

Vidya Balan is in the last leg of promotions for her upcoming detective film, Bobby Jasoos. The actor is running on a very tight schedule. But she insisted on a special promotional event in Kolkata. She also made it a point to meet Bengali superstar Prosenjit. We wonder why…

A source close to the film informs that the city of Kolkata holds a special place in Vidya’s heart. She had spent a lot of her younger days in the city and therefore always makes it a point to visit her lucky place before any of her film releases. More recently she shot Sujoy Ghosh’s Kahaaniextensively in Kol. It was only during the shoot of Kahaani that Vidya got a chance to experience the city in its true form and colour. This southern babe can fluently chat in Bangla and is a big fan of Prosenjit.

The two stars keep in touch despite their respective busy schedules. Even when Vidya was in Kolkata for promoting Bobby Jasoos, she called up Prosenjit and spent some time catching up on all the latest gossip with him. Vidya’s spokesperson informs “Vidya was in Kolkata only for a day with things lined up back to back. However she was keen to meet Prosenjit, even if it was briefly.”

When Shahid Kapoor’s current girlfriend and ex, Sonakshi Sinha and Priyanka Chopra posed together for the shutterbugs at IIFA 2014 they left onlookers shocked. In fact, the Exotic babe had even posted this picture on Twitter wherein both the B-town beauties were seen giggling. But the whole Sona and PC getting along was just an act it seems. We say so coz recently these two starlets shot for a commercial together. However, the makers had a tough time getting Priyanka and Shotgun Junior in one frame.

First, the duo took forever to get ready and then both Priyanka and Sonakshi didn’t step out of their vanity vans for several hours. Since these two B-town beauties were all friendly during IIFA, the makers thought they would get along while shooting the commercial as well. Sadly that wasn’t the case. Apparently, the makers even thought of filming Sona and Ms Chopra’s portion separately but after lot of mehnat they managed to get them together in one frame. Well, if this is indeed true then one thing is for sure – Sonakshi and Priyanka aren’t BFF’s . Wethinks it’s coz of a certain Shahid connection, or it could also be coz of professional rivalry too. After all, Bollywood is getting competitive with each passing day. And considering that both Sona and PC belong to opposite Khan camps – Salman and SRK, it only makes more sense.

We all know Arjun Kapoor is quite fond of Salman Khan and never gets tired praising the superstar. However, we hear the young actor has turned down SK’s brother Sohail Khan’s next filmMy Punjabi Nikaah. But that’s not the problem. Apparently, AK rejected the film coz Sohail’s last flick Jai Ho failed to create magic at the box office. Ouch… now that must have hurt, hai na? While talking to a leading tabloid, a source said, “After Jai Ho did not live up to its high expectations at the box office, Arjun Kapoor refused to be a part of the project.” While reports claim that Boney Kapoor’s ladla beta was offered the film, Sohail Khan says otherwise.

“I would love to work with him, but My Punjabi Nikaah and Arjun have no connection whatsoever. In fact, before I approach anyone for the film, I need to revise its script. We haven’t fixed any launch date for the project,” said the Jai Ho director to the tabloid.

We do hope Arjun isn’t associated with Sohail’s film at all coz taking panga with a Khan or hiskhandaan isn’t wise

Why is Siddharth Shukhla upset?

A few months back it was reported that the telly actor was throwing tantrums on the sets of his daily soap as the air conditioner wasn’t working. However the actor later clarified that he had only asked to repair the AC.

Speaking to a leading daily Sid said, “Almost every month, it gets reported in the media and that too, negatively. It’s made out to be some kind of a tantrum thrown by me and that’s shocking. I did ask for the AC to be repaired for all of us, but what’s wrong with that? Wouldn’t you ask for the same if the air conditioner stopped working in your office? I have no clue where these stories emerge from.”

The Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania actor further added that even the channel is aware of these rumours and is looking out for the whistleblowers. Well Siddharth we can only suggest the sooner you get used to these rumours, the easier it gets to deal with

Kapil Sharma out of Yash Raj Films’ Bank Chor

Yes, you heard that right! As per the latest grapevine the stand-up comedian has parted ways with YRF and will no longer star in their film Bank Chor

Kapil Sharma was all set to make his Bollywood debut with Bank Chor which was being made by Y Films which is YRF’s Youth Film Division. In fact, the Comedy Nights with Kapil host had even signed a three-film contract with Yash Raj Films but this association has now gone kaput. This means the talented stand-comedian won’t feature in Bank Chor and the film will go on floors without him. An official statement has been issued by YRF which reads, “In a recent development, YRF & Kapil Sharma have decided to part ways mutually. Y Films’ Bank Chor will now go on floor without him.” Ashish Patil, Business & Creative Head, Youth Films, Talent Management & Brand Partnerships at Yash Raj Films, speaking on this development said, “We will look forward to working together in future when the time is right.”

Well, this piece of information is indeed shocking coz everybody including us was looking forward to see Kapil Sharma dazzle on the big screen. We don’t know the reason behind this high-profile split but we’ll have to wait a little longer before we see Kapil on 70mm.
